前世錦賽一百公尺金牌 Fred Kerley 原定將在上週日出賽由美國田徑協會（USATF）主辦的紐約市大獎賽（New York City Grand Prix），然而，他兩度在起跑架上打滑，導致他最終退出比賽。

賽後，知名田徑媒體《Citius Mag》找到 Kerley 詢問退賽的原因，他表示他的其中一個起跑架墊子壞了，他要求換一個新的起跑架。「我第一次打滑，然後第二次又再度打滑，我想我不會讓這種情況第三次發生。」並且 Kerley 隨後在社群媒體上開砲，批評世界田徑洲際巡迴賽（World Athletics Continental Tour）所使用的起跑架。

這場比賽也是 Fred Kerley 公開表示會打破 Usain Bolt 100 公尺紀錄的首場比賽，Kerley 本季比過 4 場 100 公尺，但目前仍未能在比賽中突破 10 秒大關。作為上屆東京奧運 100 公尺銀牌得主，目前狀態讓人擔憂。

另外，也有眼尖的跑友們發現，Fred Kerley 似乎脫離了原先的贊助商 ASICS，因為他腳上穿著 PUMA 的釘鞋，而非 ASICS。

據稱 Kerley 目前沒有贊助商，去年二月份 Kerley 成為 ASICS 贊助選手，然而僅一年多的時間，就傳出兩方分手的消息，目前 ASICS 仍未說明終止贊助的原因，據傳是 Fred Kerley 對於品牌為他訂製的釘鞋，感到不滿。
